Think about buying a Audi/VW/SEAT, Anyone have any opinions on them?

Reliablity, re-sell value etc..?

Loot at something with a 20vt

Be aware that the 20VT lump comes in many different guises.

The Ibiza Cupra comes with 156bhp while the Leon comes with 177bhp and only the Cupra-R Ibiza comes with 180.

That said as its used in loads of cars, there are LOADS of tuning bits out there.

All you gotta do now is decide which VAG you want it in!

Most likey It'll be a Passat/Golf with the 150Bhp version (for insurance reasons) Although I did see a nice looking Leon.

Audi's seem too expensive, 97 A4 is the same price as a 00 Golf. Golf Mk4 Gtis are fairly common and come with Recarros etc.. Not the fastest but they do have style Very Happy

The 20VT is a very thirsty lump in something like the Passat and feels very slow / laggy. I drove a 20VT Golf GTi and thought it was crap compared to my 2.0 16v Seat Cordoba at the time.

I'd leave the 20VT alone unless your going to get it above 150 as I think your much better off going for a normally aspirated lump and indeed this is what VW did in later GTi's.

I've heard the Golfs are pretty slow alright. I was looking online at Cordobas aswell. Quite a few 1.6sr coupes, not the fastest or anything I know but very insurance friendly for me. Any thoughs on the 1.8 20v non turbos? A few of them around, mostly in Toledos.

The 20vT is very thirsty in any car, i can only imagine the passat is terrible!

The difference between a 150 and 180 is huge, the 150 seems to need to be revved to the moon to get anywhere but the 180 is like a nice turbo diesel

I have the leon here today if you want to pop over

Stuck in work all day Sad Wouldn't mind dropping over someday to have a look. How are the interiors on the SEATs? Same as the VW?

I guess a Red TDI would probably be a better buy than the 150 20vt.

The leon/ toledo has the same dash as an audi a3 which is very similar to a golf. I don't think the seats are recaros, nice tho!

Tidy looking, 128Bhp and and 229 lb ft of torque. Nicer drive than the 20vt 150 I'd say and suprisingly easy to insure.

looking to spend about 8k with my old clio as a trade in, might get 1000 for it. So looking at ones advertised at 9-10k. Leons are outta my range really. Toledos and Cordobas are cheap enough so are Boras.

Problem with the TDI is they are all 90Bhp ones, not a whole lot of the 110 and 130 ones about.

In euros tho' 8k in Ireland would hardly buy you a bycle Sad Looked at ones up north and in England but when I add on VRT its not worth the hassle.
