On the megane yesterday I changed the front passenger hub as the wheel nut hole threads had sheared and the wheel nuts would not tighten. My Dad phoned there now to say he change the wheel(took the spare off and put the original on) and they are now the same again... will not tighten.

Would the wheel bolts have sheered them? Is there any other option now or will I have to change the hub again? I presume they cannot be re threaded or it will be as cheap to replace the hub?

did you change the wheel nuts for new ones? were the threads damaged on them the first time? Confused

Threads were damaged on the ones that came out. I got new studs I got when I bought alloys for my clio. So I used the old studs from the clio, I presumed they would be the right thread... seems not Sad

you would have known if they were the right thread cos they would have either gone on half a turn and nipped up on the thread or spun on by fingers. it sounds like theyve been either cross threaded when installing them or theyve been over tightend and the threads have stripped

I thinking now that I swapped the bolts to the megane when I put the alloys on it. This all happened when the spare whell was put on so the bolts might have been too long for the steel wheels.

I'll see when I'm down on saturday anyway... at least the hub will come off easier this time.
