methinks my engine is gettin a bit tired or something...its been gettin a bit tappy recently...i.e. one of the tappets take a lot longer than norm to settle down...needs a bit of warmth before it stops...90% of the time. this is prolly just due to not cleaning them thoroughly enough last time they were out i imagine.

but also noticed a funny thing today...engine is vibrating a bit...

when i started it today it idled strange straight away...like a misfiring idle but quick...erm ie not actually misfiring but gettin that misfiring feeling where its not a balanced feeling...and it did it at a certain rpm C2600, would feel vibrations a bit...again..sort of feelin as if something was unbalanced but would go thru it...

any ideas?

cheers

Problem is the cars are old, they are one of the 1st generation full of toy engines and its a quite a high stressed NA lump for the time it was made as well.

Also due to the stress and the neglect impaired on them its not surprising they have reliability problems.

Old age will be affecting all the sensors, the wiring, the actual engine components etc etc.

if you go about the engine and double check every connection and replace anything that can be dodgy it may improve.

The last few valvers I have had have been ok at first then got slower and slower, and its not juts cos I got used to them, people that got back in them after a week said whats up with the car? etc

Nevr known why really.

This chamade is slow and its not getting any quicker and its getting tappety.

There has to be a reason for it, nothing happens unless something causes it. I know what you mean Chris, it is a bit random.

aright johnnyboy have you checked your engine mounts recently? im not saying thats the prob but both my front mounts were uncle bucked and the engine shook while idling and when pulling away and it never sounded like it was idling properly and didnt actually sound ok untill it was above 3000rpm. i changed the gearbox mount and it improved a bit but the other ones still fooked so it was still shaky, then i jammed something between the strut brace and the rocker and it ran like a dream so i know that when i do get round to changing all the mounts for new ones it will vastly improve the running of the car cause it wont have half a ton of cast iron shakin aboot in the engine bay, anyway just a thought...

prob the oil, what did you use for the box oil?

I ran on 3 quid ASDA engine oil in the energies box for about 20k before I stuck in proper box oil, gear changing became an art, like acting with a stroppy female, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't.
