another post to make the place look busy!

first job I done (I think) was to remove the bumper, why? well with the bumper off its much easier to move an engine hoist abotu and I wanted it off to fix it anyway.

The passenger side brake duct was riveted to the bumper so it and its arch liner had to come off with the bumper

[img:378:567:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2001.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

as you all know the car was in the scrappy whern I found it, it was resting on its floorpan and the bumper and its splitter didn't like that much!

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2002.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2003.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I had to remove the heads of some rivets in order to move the splitter back into position. Also the bumpewr was missing the 2 side rivets, so I stuck bolts in there place to hold it sturdy (you ken whit ah mean like)

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2004.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

after the work

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2005.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2006.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

loads better!

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20bumper%2007.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I then went underneath the beast and drained the gearbox oil, whilst I was under there I poked about.

the engine is pretty oil tight - sadly, this meant the subframe was dry and has rusted!

[img:378:567:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20subframe%20hole.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

the gear lever has always been stiff, the coolant leak from above has drilled round the box

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20box%20selector.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

and also due to the previous owner driving whilst it was leaking its made the lever itself stiff and given the underside a nice orange coating, note hole where the fork lift fork punctured the floorpan.

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20underside%2001.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I then set about knockign the driveshaft roll pin out, well turns out there wasn;t a roll pin, well theres a tiny bit of it which a split pin had been passed through!

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20roll%20pin.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I got the shaft out (snapped both hub carrier bolts off, they were installed backwards), and decided to knock the ABS ring off

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20ABS%20ring.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I then set about draining the power steering fluid out, this has been badly water contaminated at some point and as a result is a pretty pink colour

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20ps%20fluid%2001.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

[img:567:378:b79a8f64f8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20ps%20fluid%2002.jpg[/img:b79a8f64f8]

I also removed its oil cooler and the pipe that runs along the subframe, it still needs flushed through.

And that was that pretty much today.

Passenger driveshaft out, gear link rod dissconnected, cooling system drained and rad removed and its ready to get the lump pulled out.

instead of a new post I will add in here.

first job today was to look at the calipers, i need the brake nipples free

so i took the caliper off as well to clean it up, the lower slider was seized solid in the carrier

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20caliper%2001.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

pic of the caliper after I cleaned it up etc and freed the nipple off, the hose is also free on the caliper, I need new rubber hoses

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20caliper%2002.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

some sign of the cars good past

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20caliper%2003.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

after a battle of minds the slider came out

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20caliper%2004.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

where it lives

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20caliper%2005.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

I cleaned it all up and lubed it as req'd. Very nice, very nice.

The brake disc was stuck solid tot he hub slightly off centre, so got that off as well, note broken wheel bolt, thats annoying. This was after I wire brushed it all clean, its wet from my wurth rost of ice btw

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20hub%2001.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

the disc again after a clean up with the wire brush in the drill, very nice

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20osf%20hub%2002.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

I then drained the water system, this was clear water not long ago, the car had never had a coolant change before I got it!

[img:567:378:b9f9b0fffc]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20coolant%20drain.jpg[/img:b9f9b0fffc]

other jobs done today, lambda wire unbolted and poked through to the bay, gear link rod dissconnected, more ps fluid pumped out of the rack, freed of various siezed bolts, broke a horm mounting bolt though! arse.

the list of new bits needed is growing quickly.

exhaust manifold needs changed, the brakes are being converted to non ABS and its easier to do both those things with the lump out.

The manifold is going to be intresting as the nuts will all need chiseled off. Normally only 3 or 4 need the chisel.

need to remove the dash as well for the pedal box.

ph2's are never a problem, ph1's up here anyway are, the water draisn otu the vent and right onto the middle manifold studs, theres feck all left of the nuts now to get a spanner on to.

thats the one i had to chisel off.
Thats how mine were looking, i had to put the spanner ontop, then a bit of metal bar, then a hammer to get it onto the nut.

well the nuts are only abotu 1mm bigger then the studs now and perfectly round! so its gonna be a tricky one methinks.

you can understand why people convert to 13mm nuts.

i use new/old inlet nuts with copper grease and never tand to have a problem again.
