well today I actually took the engine and box out.

mid action shot

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20engine%20out%2001.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

the bay, bnot rear mount bracket still in car, reason? Well due to the ABS system you can't actually get to the 18MM through bolt at the back easily, so the 2 16mm nuts and bolts it was then!

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20engine%20out%2002.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20engine%20out%2003.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

amazing how much of a mess 1 leaking coolant pipe can make!

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20engine%20out%2004.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

took the cambelt cover off, belt was old

[img:378:567:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20belt%2001.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

it was pretty loose as well

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20belt%2002.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

also I am not sure if thats a current water pump problem or an old one/ I have never seen it leakign and it held the level fine after I secured all the clips, so I will check the pump for play and make a decision if I should change it then.

I then set abotu removing the exh manifold. Like I thought ever nut needed to be chiselled off. The bottom C shaped one was the small top nut or what was left of it!

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20manifold%20nuts.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

the nut came off but this stud was solid to the manfiold, so it ripped out of the head with the manifold, arse

[img:567:378:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20man%20stud.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

so I need to sort that out, a few of the studs need replaced, not a job I want to do due to corrosion!

I also had a look at the aux water pump to see why it never worked

[img:378:567:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20aux%20water%20pump.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

yes its knackered!

the actual manifold

[img:378:567:bd9230cd3c]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20man%20off.jpg[/img:bd9230cd3c]

so just need to buy stuff and remove the dash and fit the non ABS pedal bopx and brake system! deep joy!

this mornings action

oil pressure sender, it worked after I jiggled it but only just.

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2001.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

it has the white one which none of these cars should have as it was a recall issue.

the wire causes the most problems, this one like most needed closed up a tad

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2002.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

sender out

[img:378:567:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2003.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

where it lives on the block, the one to the left is the water jacket drain screw

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2004.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

after a clean out, the hole can clog, in this case it wasn't clogged but I gave it a good blast out anyway

[img:378:567:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2005.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

cleaned up the spade on it as well, I don't have a blakc one to fit so need to keep the white one for the moment

[img:378:567:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20oil%20pres%20sender%2006.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

I took the the heatshield off the widow makers modulator

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20abs%20modulator.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

cracked the unions off nicely, also you see the 2 bleed screws? on the right fluid squirte dout right away, the left one let some air out first

widow makers pump and accumulator

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20abs%20accumulator.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

this all works and is going on ebay when its removed.

I fitted driveshafts in the hubs as the bearings despite the thing not moving were starting to pull apart. the one in the left of the pic is a clio shaft

[img:567:378:8ee4b9f071]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20temp%20shafts%20fitted.jpg[/img:8ee4b9f071]

it will be pushe dinto the street soon and blasted clean.

I pushed it out into the street to blast it clean, sits a tad high without the weight in the front!

Sell it to Paul M for that red PH1 he's been trying to shift for months. Think of a number, double it, add VAT and £20 shipping Wink

this morning picked up the new exhaust studs and the nylon release fork bush.

studs fitted to the manifold

[img:378:567:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20new%20studs%20manifold.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

I mocked up the DP and the manifold, I noticed this, not good enough on a renault replacement downpipe! Yes thats right a pin hole!

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20dp%20man%20mock%2001.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20dp%20man%20mock%2002.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

decent springs, new studs and new nuts means heaven for fitting!

So my willing helper Jamie and I whipped the box off, I knew it wasn't going to be good.

Clutch is fecked and the release bearing is so oisy the only reason we never heard it had to be because the blowing exhaust.

Anyway

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2001.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

the plate was actually stuck to the cover which was stuck to the flywheel, had to use a hammer and chisel to seperate!

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2002.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

the cover

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2003.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

plate

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2004.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

compared to my new one

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2005.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

[img:378:567:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2006.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20clutch%2007.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

Gutted would be the way to say it, I was expectiong it to be in need of a clean up as it stuck, but not this bad. So I have to use my nice new clutch that was going in the chammy. not happy.

The clutch has done 68k, buit due to the previous owner not replacing a 20 quid water pipe he has destroed the clutch.

I also repaired soem engine loom issues, this connector broke off due to corrosion

[img:567:378:d46c1ab369]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/scrappy%20loom%20fix%2001.jpg[/img:d46c1ab369]

all sorted now though.

Well today dash off and ABS removed and normal servo assisted system fitted. With the help of young Jamie of course.

excuse random order of pics!

So dash off and the pedal box was the first area of attack.

ABS pedal box

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/ABS%20pedal%20box%2001.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

from the bay side after I removed the modulator.

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/ABS%20pedal%20box%2002.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

here is the modulator, its actually resting nicely so as not to damage it btw!

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/ABS%20modulator%2001.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

this is the non ABS pedal box, a few subtle differences

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/new%20pedal%20box%2001.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

once that was in I had to make up nerw pipes, started with the front drivers side, looks nothing special but is actually a perfectly shaped pipe

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/new%20brake%20pipe%2001.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

look at those curves

[img:378:567:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/new%20brake%20pipe%2002.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

oh yeah

[img:567:378:e0cc25d7b8]http://www.renault-turbo.com/chris/new%20brake%20bay%2002.jpg[/img:e0cc25d7b8]

all the other pipes, I ran out of pipe so had to adapt the existing rear pipes, as you can see this one was just a wee tiny bit short whch was annoying
