my sister and I went to crammond island in edinburgh for a wander today, took some pics.

crammond island was a ww2 fortification

nope thats further round, that bit is to far inland and has few windows

that would have been my guess. tbh I cant think of anything else that would require a mounting block of that size.

Unless it was an armoury. (but it has windows, so thats unlikely.

well my sister says they use it as an armoury.

The channels in the floor appear to be drains which run outside the walls, the chgannels also have slots for what I think would be grating on them.

The gun mount turret things are still there in other builkdings as are their rails for them to spin on. Its pretty cool.

well maybe it was then?

They may have added the windows later so the tourists could see? but it's unusual to have weak entry points on an armoury like a window.

nah not for tourists, most of the place was pulled down to try and stop tourists!

maybe there were generators mounted on them....and the channels with the grills were where the hefty powerlines rans out to the other buildings on the island...
