 torsion bar question

lets say you have the entire rear beam off the car and the torsion bars are out. What is actually holding the brackets at each end (the bits that bolt up to the chassis) to the rest of the beam assembly?

sweet as.

Need to get this naffed beam back together and back on the other car. If i can remove the bracket with the torsion bar stuck in it, i can smack the central yoke back into position, then put the bracket and bar back in.

Why the system with torsion bars without coil springs on rear is used on R19? Seen it on some early Megane versions also.

Is it more rigid? better handling? Or they wanted to save some costs by not putting the rear coil springs?


Don't they loose in reliability? At least with Peugeot is does....... and seen in the old forum some complaints with rear torsion bars.... Especially the system with 4 torsion bars on the 16 V and 1.7 and 1.8

torsion bars free up interior space.

The system is also very reliable, I have yet to see a snapped torsion bar from road use or even competition use. Whereas snapped coil springs are ten a penny.

They are however expensive and thats why renault have resorted back to rear coil springs.

Coil springs are good in that they can allow IRS and its relatively cheap to make. Also saves a good chunk of weight.
