 Torx brake disc bolts

Why must everything be so bloody difficult on these cars? Trying to get the 2 tox screws that hold the brake discs on off...is it worth trying to heat with a blow tourch?

they are a pain in the arse.

Theres 2 types, the later T30 type have rounded edges whilst the earlier T40 types are proper countersuck efforts and seem to nearly always undo.

Hit the torx bit with a hammer, the shock helps.

If its not budging then try some heat, don't do mad as it just goes straight into the bearing.

Worst comes to the worst the drill needs to come out.

drill them out first as last....saves time.

and hopefully ur disk isnt welded with rust to the hub

done the one side, whacking em helped, just waiting for the WD40 to soak in on the other, the side im doing now had about 1mm of friction lining on both bads. Discs were slightly scored too.

my fronts are fine, they are the discs and pads fromt he hatch but the rears need doing.

Well, passenger side, i rounded the torx holes off, so Im having to drill then Sad

Mine came loose with the 'shock therapy' but very nearly rounded

Well, i've drilled a small hole through one of em, on to the next size drill up....

how small? best to get a drill thru there right size first time to save time. usually when theres a hole in there u can unwind it with a big flat driver hammered in. dont wanna risk goin too big and knackerin the thread on the hub...

then again i never put new bolts in as i left the stud in there and just ground it flush

screwdriver works best if you fracture the old disc., That way you can stick a new bolt in when you get the old one out which when drilling you rarely can.

Well, the screwdriver didnt work, metal int he bolt is too soft, managed to drill 2mm pilot holes through both of the bolts, bigger sizes just wont cut, drills are probably blunt, so looks like im buying some new ones.

Given up for today, now pissing it down Sad I've had to put it all back together, need the car for tomorrow; new disc/pads on one side old on the other :S

if you think this is bad, try changing the discs on a Rover 600

I just finished doing this and my god what a trauma. Have to take the bloody front suspension apart just to take the discs off.

are they like the old rovers and protons where the discs behind the hub?

800's are easy to change though.

What i did with mine is to bang the hub with a hammer and put on some wd-40 let it sit for a bit then give it another go
