 tripod joint

drivers side driveshaft...

have to get the tripod joint off the shaft to be able to put new gaiter on but as indicated by the red arrows the end of the shaft appears to have been keyed in rather harshly and therefore i cannot get it off...even with a puller....

any suggestions?

yeah thought about tryin to grind em off....looks like it may be the only way.

bah i say BAH!....havent even looked at the other end yet

no....they really must have whacked it with some machine as they are not seperate pieces, the three section are like a shear step...

but hang on....if i file it so it comes off....how do i secure it back on?

you don't.

To be fair this gaiter never usually needs replaced. I need one for the hatch engine/box right enough.

yeah well it had a hole in it....although it was full of grease stilll...startign to wish i hadnt bother and bodged it....ah well too late now.
