Hey all,

My fuel pumps dieing slowly! I think its because the car was sat for a year and a half on the lawn. When it passed the MOT in sept the fuel gauge worked but it was then stood til Jan this year when it was driven again.Sometimes (and its getting more common) it just lack power, not through a problem but it feels like a lack of fuel.If I slam my foot to the floor itll stutter and judder, but if I press my foot down gently and slowly it will be fine.My question is is it worth me buying an uprated fuel pump as alot of my journeys are along motorways and duel carriageways where Im hitting 50,stopping,hitting 50 again, etc or would a new standard fuel pump be fine?

If an uprated one where to get one? Are they a similar size, eg could I fit a and use an uprated GTT specific pump without having to change or modify anything else?

I know I sound like a right newbie but as this car has to get me to work 5 days a week I dont have the time to start messing with it for days on end investigating for myself.

Ive already reconditioned the injection system, replaced the accelerator cable and I keep the tank fairly full,so I cant see what else it could be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the engine's standard, why wouldn't a standard fuel pump be perfectly adequate for the job?

the pumps probably fine, it runs at a constant rate, so if it works the car will run, if it doesntl; it won't.

Is this on the 5? Well the problems begin, sell it now or be prepared to sink hundreds into it.

what car and what age is the car? if its a 5 isn't it a mechanical pump driven off the cam? has it had a service? have you changed the fuel filter? is the regulator working properly? all things I would check! Smile

well the fuel filter had a change at the last MOT but like I said hasent been used for that long, its probably only done about 4000 miles since it was MOTed.

The car is a 5, its a single point injection that is the most expensive. It seems to be better when its hot, while its cold it does it more than any other time.

David,what regulators that?
