 Valve clearance on a 1.4 energy

I had a go at setting the noisy tappets on a mates 1.4 energy engine and after i finished there was still a bad tapping noise so my mate took it to a garage and they sorted them, now quiet as a mouse, so what the hell did they do different, i now you need to have the e valve fully compressed and ajust the inlet to 0.10mm and out to 0.25mm which is what i did but no joy.

so can anyone give me some tips

how can you adjust the valves when the valves are fully compressed, i.e open?

You adjust the valves when the valves are fully shut and the heel of the cam is facing the rocker pad.

i just follow the hayns manual it says when E1 is full compressed then ajust 1 of the inlets and one of the outlets then go on to the next one

and i did it the same way you said, but there was still a tap intill the garge sorted it

should they be tight fit or lose fit when you ajust them with the feeler gage ?

you did go betweent he valve and rocker instead of between the cam and rocker pad didn't you?

yep not that dull, i follow the book very closely, i told the garge how i did it and they said i was on the right path but wouldn't tell me anymore than that
