Meself and Hanna went for a walk today, i took her to see the local famine graveyard

I'm not sure how well you lot are up on irish history but back in 1845 there was a huge famine across the whole coutry. You can read more about it here: http://history-world.org/famine_in_ireland.htm

Its not too far outside when we live but unless you knew where it was you'd never find it. You walk up one of the back roads then turn down a laneway then turn again into a field. You have you walk across the field where you'll come to an opening and this is what you see.

Just looks like a normal grotto but stuck in the middle of a few fields! Note the random horse, there was a few around

Theres only one headstone which was erected in 1944 same time as the grotto. Before that it was just an empty field. One thing to remember is that this was a grave rather than graves. Just one big hole in the ground that was left open until the people stopped dying.

This is mounted on the grotto itself. 8024 people buried under foot. Thats a huge amount of people when you consider the size of where we are, anyone that came here will verify that!

thats a horrible amount of people to be chucked into a pit and where you live very surprising! The place is tiny!

Good pics.
