My oh my aren't we feeling fit  This is the next installment of me making hanna regret wanting me to take her on walks 
Todays combined exercise and history lesson was to and around the Avoca copper mines.
They say they first started mining here back in the bronze age which i guess could be acceptable given the use of copper in bronze and they were used on and off until the early 80's. "Proper" mining started in the 1700's
Anyway, on to the piccies.
This is a pic of what you can see from the road, it was through the windsreen so a bit crappy

This is one of the entrances in, it used to be a proper road but water erosion has taken the asphalt off. More water erosions pics later. Pic doesn't show how steep this is!

Water erosion, i like it. Shows how something so pissy can do alot of damage

And old building beside the tower, we weren't supposed to get this close as it was fenced off but not with barbed wire so can't be too dangerous

Big ass hole in the ground, again barbed wire was in the way to stop people dying

And when you get to the top, you get this - a big ass cross that looks over the valley! Nice views tho. You can see the rest of the mine on the way side of the valley

Water erosion again, still cool. The whole "road" is covered in a silty coppery coating and is bloody slippy!

Towers are chimney's for smelting metal.
Steel things look like some sort of loading hopper. |

Went to the Avaco wool mill, (Wife's Idea) when we had a break in Ireland a couple of years back, Got a lovely throw, (again wifes idea) Lovely area, really nice. Isnt the pub from Ballykissangle near there? |

Hired a car and drove from Dublin South, stopping off here and there! Yes went to Wicklow past the mountains, and had a pint in the Ballykissangle pub! |
