I have a Renault 19 16V and it has seemed it was like running on 3 cylinders. I pulled the spark plug leads out of the plug holes and noticed rusty coloured water sitting down in the holes. Also the water level is down. Is this a sign of something serious like head gasket gone. There dosnt seem to be any water in the oil as there is no sign of milk. Any advice please. Sad

Water can easily get in to the plug wells via the vent on the bonnet and cause the problems your describing. Dry it out and try again.

Mmmmm....But the water colour is rusty like what is in the coolant and the coolant level has dropped. I just dont understand how water can get into to the holes when the HT leads have rubber seals on them that close the holes off to the outside. Im away from home as well so no tools as such and no Haynes manual. Sad

Yes, the leads have rubber seals but come on, they're not totally water tight.

Like Huw said, dry it out, top up the coolant and give a drive. If the coolant in the plug wells comes back, you've got your answer.

So if it comes back then, it would be head gasket then?

Yes, unless it's been raining heavily and it's just rainwater again Wink
