New engine - check

New brakes - check

New suspension - check, coilovers on the way soon hopefully.

My question now, what else mechanically shall I renew when I rebuild it?

Wanna fit new:

Wheel bearings
Track rod ends
Balljoints
Suspension top mounts

Would new wishbones be beneficial? And any other consumables that will be past their best on a 98K miler? I'm think bushes etc. that I don't know about!

wide track it, 16V wishbones, need to sort shafts out anyway.

16V struts as well.

You keeping the manual rack?

What are you wanting to do with it? Are you willing to spend the cash?

If so then new wishbones, get the subframe tie bars, arb, arb bush clamps and so on powder coated.

Don't coilover it.

Mmmm well I can't see what else can cope with the weight of the engine. I know you say 16v struts will hold it but surely the damping characteristics wont be the same since they'll be under greater stress?

I think a PAS rack is more of a necessity that a choice matey, it's frustrating enough with that tiny 1.4 lump in there. I'm assuming the PAS setup from a 19 will run if I just plumb in pipes to the PAS system on the V6 lump yeah?

Didn't realise 16v track was wider.... Smile

Driveshafts I'm guessing will be one-off custom jobbies as I'm sure the engine mounts will.

Yeah and I don't mind getting stuff powder coated, just as long as it aint to expensive.

Still got the management to sort yet which hopefully will be the last major spend on it.

Been told to keep some in reserve for a custom rad too.

yeah the rack with the pug pump will be fine.

I have loads of shafts here you can have customised if you want.

theres lot of radiators that you can use. Also ont he ph2's some of them have extension brackets to shove the bottom of the rad further forward into the bumper.

Good info chap, I'm still curious as to why you're trying to steer me away from coilovers though?

That's not what I asked, I just wondered if there was a technical reason that's all.

Cheers Finchy boy!

Well as much as you think they're a waste of money Chris I'm thinking that coilovers are gonna be the way forward!

they readily corrode

they strip therir threads

they wear quickly

and so on

any set you buy are not for road use.

If the car will maybe do 100 - 200 miles on track per year then you might get away with using them.
