Looking for a cheap run about.
I tend to do a lot of scenic driving down some pretty rough roads and tracks and i dont think the 16v is very kean on these little adventures anymore.

Lowering it was probably the worst move i made, wicked on nice smooth town roads but out in the sticks it just doesn't cut it.
So looking for a cheap second car (well...fourth car, but second on the road).

Want something i can give a bit of abuse basically, and i still got my weller steels with 185/60 R13 from my last 5 which were wicked on the rough stuff, looked cool aswell.

What was the 1.7 GTX like??

Any fives with an energy lump in them?

What would people consider to be the best five?
(most reliable, best engine/model)

(note, 'reliable' automatically excludes the GT Turbo)

So what do people think??

Cheers!

no never any energy engined 5's, I always meant to get arounf to doing one but still haven't.

the 1.7 tbh is the best bet,

Although in my opinion I could cover a lot more ground a lot quick in a 19 than in either a clio 16V/williams/5. The 19 is far better at jumping, but it seems jumping is a scottish driving thing more than english.

Yeah, the 1.7 is what i've got my eyes open for at the moment. Difficult to find one that hasn't been ruined by some ned trying to turn it into a GTT though.

What would it take to drop an energy lump in a 5?

How far did look into it?

I still got a 1.4 sitting in one of my old clio's, needs a new HG but other than that its in good condition, which is more than i can say for the body.

wouldn't take much, shoudl just go in.

I have E6J lumps which will go straight in as its carbed and won't take much at all to get running, trying to convert it to injection is gonna be an arse if you have to use a clio E7J.

I see.

Bugger.

So i take it E6J and E7J are both 1.4 energy engines but the E7J is an SPI?

I did have a ph1 19GTS, would that have been the E6J?

best 5 is the gtx although Al would probably have something to say about that, and there aren't that many about that are any good, the rarest has to be the deep blue ones couldn't get them for love nor money when they were new something like a 3 month wait for blue. and yes some of us have nedded them up Laughing if your going to change the engine stick a valver in it Wink
