hey guys,

Am wondering what the maximum width is I can go to ona R19 16V's wheels, do the wheels have to be 7.5 wide, if not where can this width be , on the outside or inside, and do i need to know where the centre of the width of the wheel is so as to align correctly, i.e. not go in or out of the body to far.??

You need to know the magic offset number!

Standard for 19s is ET35-37 offset. Offset is why most of the time when you see a ned in his corsa with non standard alloys on, they stick out a mile, because some Vauxhalls use an unusual low offset. Ned boy just picks some wheels he likes, and not necessarily in the correct offset so it ends up looking like some kind of dune buggy. The effect is best on a standard ride height corsa with 17s… looks stupid. Laughing

so the higher the offset, the more the wheels move outwards right?

I mean looking at a 19 they could do with coming out slightly howver i wouldn't want to catch the arch, as i want to bring the back down 30mm

offset is 38 on the wheels i'm looking at! 7.5 x 17" or 7.5 x 18"

are 17"'s max, or will 18"s go on without moddong the arches?

maybe 17" would be better then, would there be a hugh difference between 17" 18" i.e. that favours fitting 17" over 18", it's just i think i would like the wheels to fill the arches, they always seem to look nicer completely filled, although I not sure i want to loose to much speed lower down.

go for 17s, pick the right style and they look plenty big enough. Pick the wrong style and even 18s wont look big.

If you go for 18's spend the cash and go for 215/35 section tyres. A lot of wheel and tyre deals come with 225/40 which might create problems with clearance!
