Shit. I'm guessing driving long distances isn't really a good plan then! Well my pressure guage seems good still. I'll just have to keep an eye on everything and get it sorted asap

pressure will stay fine though as the leaks after the pressure gauge.

Oh dear, so if while I'm driving.....the leak suddenly gets worse......the pressure guage won't drop?

Hey cheers for that Neal Smile

I'll be in London from sunday - thursday. I'm going on an Adobe course with work, learning how to use photoshop etc, and it's 9:00am - 5:30pm everyday. Ah well, if it gets a lot worse like, I might have to call on someone to help me out! Cheers guys Smile

Neal that is awesome of you Very Happy cheers! I just checked on multimap and St Albans is about an hours drive from where I'm staying in London. So are you meaning to just have a look and see what's happening like? Or to actually try and sort it? I mean, I dunno how long changing that seal would take? If it's a good few hours then I don't expect to be doing that like, but if it's like "ah, piece of piss!" then y'know. I ain't really got time to get one before the weekend now anyway. Ah well, will see what happens.

Cheers again boss Very Happy Legend

Changing a crank seal is not the sort of thing I'd want to attempt on my drive in 2 hours tbh.

I was thinking we could check it over and see for sure what it is, might not be the crank seal at all...

yup looks just like mine. take a shit load of oil with you and dont go driving at 100+ or she wont get very far. lol

my engine did 2500 miles before it died due to the seal totaly failing. That was fun as i had only just put the engine in the cabby.

2 options mate, take the engine out and fix it or put a better engine in. thats what i was gona have to do. (still do actualy)

Well I've wanted a Williams engine for so long, but just can't justify it.....so this engine failing would be a good enough reason to get one I spoze! lol.

Hey Si that'd be cool yeah, you can both tell me how shit the car is then lol :p

Right i will just add me 2 pence here.

Ive just had an oil leak, exactly the same as you describe, drivers side coming from cambelt area.

Wishbone, drivesahft e.t.c all covered in oil.

Now it went to a mechanic who i know well, he stripped the drivers side of the engine down.

Its was found to be the seal for the driveshaft that powers the oil pump in the sump, its driven by the CAM Belt.

It was found once stripped that the bearing inside was scored to hell, and was missaligned (there is a hole oil is meant to go through but it wasnt aligned).

The car would go from MAX on oil to MIN in the space of about 500 miles driving.

Now because we didnt want to reaplce one part and then find it leaked again we took no chances.

We used the oil drivehsaft which was the thickest (he had 4 F7P spare engines to choose from), a new gasket (there was no gasket on previously which makes me think the bearing was put back in wrong causing this oil leak), new rubber seal for the driveshaft.

Now touch wood it hasnt leaked again, took about 14 hours worth overall (strip down and build up side of engine twice), all for a bargain price of £100 labour.

So all im saying is that it could well be related to that aswell.

Wow, 14 hours of labour is something I do NOT really wanna pay for at garage rates! Well your leak sounds much worse than mine. From max to min in about 500 miles like....cuz I've been to birmingham & back, driven around home here for 2 weeks, then london & back this week.....and I still haven't toped up, and I'm nearly approaching 1,000 miles now like.

But yeah it's exactly as you described with the wishbone, driveshaft etc all covered in oil. Ah well, no point moaning about it on here anymore lol, I'll just have to get it sorted. Cheers for all your help Smile
