today coming home from work started the car up as normal ,no probs ,as soon as i pulled away ,this loud whistle started .i did not bother stopping and checking whats wrong with it really and kept driving to figure out how the whistle works.

it does it when its in gear. just over 2k rpm the whistle starts slowly and keeps getting louder and faster with the revs/speed .but when i get it back to the neutral the whistle disappears .

it does it in every single gear constantly over 2k and does not seem to affect the drivability of the car what so ever ,

also my gear changes are as smooth as it was so i dont think it can be something related to the gearbox (hope not Confused )

sure its just not th einduction kit making noise?

If it was a vacuum leak then it would be loudest at idel not when revved.

thats definitely not the whistle that the induction kit would make chris ,this sounds more like a metalic sound if you know what i mean .

sounds as if some metal part is rubbing against another

also tried taking my foot off and on the gas pedal while driving ,the whistle changes sound instantly .

dont think this can be a wheel bearing but will check the front wheels anyway . dont know what else to look for really

further inspection in daylight ,

started the engine up nothing unusual , warmed up and stuck it in first gear to pull away ,as soon as i do this the noise kicks in ,i press the clutch pedal and put it in neutral ,pull the handbrake and the noise is still there . so i go out open the bonnet and have a look where its coming from .

the noise is coming from under the airfilter just from the gearbox . there is something turning in there that causes this noise .
i get back in the car as soon as i press the clutch pedal the noise disappears ,leave the pedal the noise kicks in again.

i put it in gear again and drive down the hill the noise gets louder .

its deffo something to do with the gearbox ,but what is it ????

the gear changes are still smooth as feck.

Had the same problem few months ago very anoying and loud too. My gears changed smooth as feck to. It my clutch release bearing which wined due to the car standing still for a long time and the bearing being dryed out I think. Problem solved now! Do the clutch at the same time and the engine mounts to when you are at it!

oh great at least there is some light to my problem

so where does that clutch release bearing live ? how can i get the fecker out ???? is there a way to lubricate it if it dried out to make it serve me 20 more miles before i can do the job ?

quite simply no. its a box off jobbie, trace your clutch cable to a paddle on the gearbox. on the other end of that, is the release bearing, mr H may know a quick and easier way, but i wouldnt have thought its possible to do it with out taking the box off.
