here's the problem.

sometimes when I turn the car on and go to pull away the car stalls. it does this for ages then gets some balls about itself and starts to drive normaly. I've even had it stop whilst driving which isn't good!

I've just sorted the alternator as some dick put the + and - wires on the same terminal. so now it works properly and charces at 14.2V (so it's not an electrical problem)

what do you think? fuel blockage or something?

few months ago mate. but do you realy think plugs and leads would cause this much of a problem?

surely it would misfire too eh?

Could be a number of things, fuel startvastion, idle issue, process of elimination I suppose

well I know its not electrical as I have sorted the alternator issue and have good V's to the battery. Plus the battery is new and that.

I'll swap the plugs over just incase and wang some rex ex in there too to tru to break down what ever is blocking the fuel. (if it is that)

as you said mals, process of elimination.

when was the timing belt last changed out?

my old white hatch had a similar problem, but it was right after a cam belt change, got one of the cams a notch off and it caused the problems you describe

also, does it start driving normally once warmed up?

does it only have this problem when cold?

Rite neo.

the cambelt hasn't been changed since I went to get it with chris almost a year ago. it was fine then so I dont see why there would be a problem now? when it drives it drives fine mate.

the problem seems to be when hot. if I drive it first thing in the morning I can rag it round the block with no problems. but after it's warmed up it stalls when underload.

I've just emptied the tank and changed the fuel filter but when I started it up it stalled 2 times and then ran ok without stalling. have been round the block init but thsats it so cant realy tell if the problem is fixed or not?

hmmm it stalls underload? so as you are pulling away from a junction say, it will stall?

how about when coming to a halt? will it stall out then?

if it does it then, then the likely cause is the road speed sensor, mine has that problem and for a quick fix i adjusted the screw stop for the throttle cable, just a couple of turns, it took the idle to just over 1000rpm but it stops the car stalling when i pull up to junctions.

it will do until i cba to fit another speedo cable

only under load and when driving. doesn't stall when at junctions. only when pulling away?

I'll stick another sensor on it and see what happens then.

ok here's where i am now.

Ive changed the plugs, leads, road speed sensor and throtal body. still the problem persists.

I just changed the coil but then the the fuel pump relay startd to click and the coil wouldn't spark. so I changed it bac and the problem continued.

not a very good day guys. any more ideas as to what is going on?

i can only think of two things doc.
its either timing or fuel starvation

does it just stall under load or does it struggle for a bit, like its misfiring then stall ?

just stalls mate.

Although now the relays for the fuel pump are clicking and the pump isn't priming. (but if you cross the wires then it works? search me) I've tried 4 relays that i know work and it's doing it on all of them.

I also dont seem to have a spark since i changed the coil. but I've put 3 new coils on there and the original and nothing is happening!

fucking pissed off now! as it's now stuck in tescos carpark doing fuck all.

More pissed off because when i left it to get the coil and bits it started up fine!

kinda reminds me of the problem we had with neals chammy about a year ago, we never did find what caused it or how to fix it, but he stuck on a fresh charged battery and the car roared back into life and he has not had a problem since.

does not solve the stalling problem thou, thats got me stumped matey, sorry

I put on another ECU as well as charging the battery.

The original ECU is still sitting in my shed with 'DEAD' written on it in tippex. I've tried it on 2 other cars since that and it never did work again.
