Hi everyone and to you again Chris H. Chris I have your latest advice - the rear calipers have apparently seized (the discs at the rear are quite rusted ) probably my fault for not driving it through the winter? I will try and check the key again - if it is the key what are my options and does it (a new or used one) need reprogramming - what would be reasonable cost? Would connecting any of the 3 wires currently attached to the green receiver circuit board cure/prove anything?

I doubt they have siezed mate. What to do is pop the wheels off and take the pads out. See if the caliper slides back and forth on its sliders, if it doesn't then you need to free them off, a hammer, some wd-40 and grease will do the job.

connecting the wires won't do it. If its the key then you have a bit of a problem.

do you have a trip comp? Do you have the button on the wiper stalk?

have checked the key using digi cam and this shows a bright light - so I assume that the key is working? If Renault give me a code exactly how is this input using the stalk button - why is there a need to input the code?

Why are Renault dealers unco-operative! Contacted my local dealer to aske the process for getting the code - they responded that they do not provide it and I would need to get the car to them an they are fully booked for at least a week. I asked for a phone no for Renault Customer Services and they gave 0800 072 3372 - RCS were a little more sympathetic and after asking for chasis no and some other details actually phoned the dealer I had contacted. This dealer will now provide the code (for £15 not sure if this includes vat!) and as long as I take the V5, my driving licence AND a letter (from me) explaining why I want the code. I will let you know how I get on - if you could let me know the procedure for inserting the code that would be great.

go down with the v5 and kick off in the showroom, ask them how often do they steal fromt eh public? the codes for the car and therefore they provide it free as the code is property of the car not renault

Before I depart to nice an user friendly Renault, just a long shot - the code is not likely to be inside the remote key is it? Also when entering the code do I need to do anything with the accellerator pedal?

it won't be in the key.

you do need to do the pedal jig, I beleive its ignition on, pedal pressed for 5 seconds light flashes, then put the code in and press pedal again

Obtained code (in fact 2 codes) from local Renault dealer - would not relent on the £15 charge (this was including vat) - ignition on, wait for 'blinking' light to go out and inserted first digit, pedal down again wait for light to go out and inserted second digit etc - car now starts :D

Will this knock out the immobiliser for good? (Renault could't confirm)

Is this the code that the plip key would have sent to the receiver ? if so should/could I try and reset the plip key code?

thanks for all your help and advice - presumably I should not now use the nebie forum for future advice??

no don't uise this forum, use the one that covers your issue.

the iommob will still be active, if its not plipping then you need to put that in every time you start the car
