Mmmm, wouldn't the performance suffer though? Or is that only when it collapses?

I'm sure Bryan will shove his emissions probe in it's exhaust for me if I asked nicely, that would diagnose it for sure I imagine?

only when it collapses, when they start to fail they can improve midrange on some lumps due to preventign over scavenging!

Right, well EDO now has new windscreen wipers. Earlier in the week the plastic gubbin on the passengers' side snapped in half and the wipers were (in my best Chris H voice) 'pish' anyway. So got some new 'uns fitted.

Also got the wrong set of leads changed for the right set. So hopefully I've got it cracked this time!

Only other thing I've done to the car is fit the 17's my mate gave me with the car. This was because the 16's had worn down quite badly. Fortunately though I remember them looking iffy when I drove the car from London and I've put a few thousand on 'em since then so if I get same tyres again (Pirelli P6000) then hopefully they should last a while, although the 17's do kind of set the car off!

Got a mate interested in buying the 16's anyway, dunno whether to do so or not, tis always handy to have a spare set of wheels.

That's about it for now! Got some upholstery cleaner today, the seats' are starting to smell of my work uniform so it's quite bad when you consider I work in a dog food factory! Gonna give whole car a wash and wax tomorrow weather permitting so keep your eyes open for pics.

Well all 6 plugs and leads now changed on the Vectra. Got the front bank done and then me and Dunc thought fuck it and did the rear bank as well.

Just had to unbolt one or two bits and half hour later the job were a good 'un.

Feels a lot smoother now.

Well nearly put 10K on this now. Been a great car in terms of reliability, quite economical too considering.

Still has a couple of issues though with the coolant - oil is being mixed in the water and it's losing it at a rate of about one small cupful a week, not very scientific measurements I know. Very Happy

Also had it up on a lift yesterday after a mate told me they thought the exhaust was blowing, they were right - it's got a crack right around the middle of the catalytic converter so it's going to need a new one. Sad

Found one for £93 on BuyPartsBy.com which aint to bad in all honesty.... I was thinking £400-job myself!

It depends vastly on the kind of driving.

On a long trip where you can sit at 70-80mph on Motorways then you can get up to 38 to the gallon - that's what I got when I went down to Essex for an interview.

By comparison driving around town, taking short journeys or stop-start driving then that can drop down to between 25-29mpg.

My driving over the course of a week is a mixture of both though and it normally settles at 30-32 which I don't think is at all bad to be honest.

Can't weld, and I've been offered a 2nd hand replacement for £60 off a Vectra forum which I'm gonna take if it's intact. Once I've got it I think I'll take it to a fabricators and see if they'll make me a decat based on the dimensions of the cat.... been looking at one from Regal and it's like £365 just for the pipe!

I'm also to come by a spare throttle body and hopefully a set of inlet plenums from the guy with the cat on which I want to have a go at porting, if I can do that then it'll have the V6 breathing pretty well what with the IK and exhaust it's already got fitted.

depends on good. is it strong? yes.

is it pretty? no.

Although a grinder and filler can solve that problem.

A really good welder will lay down welds all day that are perfect and good enough you don't want to cover them up.
