Typing 'wheel pcd' into google will bring up several sites with info. Offset can (apparently) be 35 - 42mm, so 8mm on top of 38mm will put you off the edge. I'm no expert in this (or anything!), but I would have thought that offset would only affect cornering dynamics and not straight line running?
