Hilton's a very good choice, the local U-Bahn station (Eberplatz) will get you onto all the interesting lines.
You will also be near the Köln Seilbahn, one of the many scary things I've done this week (
Kölner Seilbahn).
Also check out the Wuppertal 'Schweberbahn' if you want more scaring. It's a monorail built in 1901 that runs down the middle of a river at 50km/hr. Nobody died til 1999 then they've had 2 accidents since, I survived though.
