The answer is quite simple, Renault shafted us, In the UK, 19s with a sunroof was standard trim, in Europe having a 19 with a sunroof was an option as the majority of European 19 16Vs got aircon as standard.
Fitting aircon as standard to UK models were more expensive to produce than having a sunroof fitted plus our climate is not exactly known for its hot sunny days.
I have never seen a UK 19 with aircon fitted but the holes for the aircon pipes are in place, filled with a black rubber bung by the expansion tank.
Renault also shafted the UK when they changed the 19 from the ph1 to the ph2, the European models had a nice new swoopy dash and new shape switches but to cut costs, they left the UK model of the 19 with the ph1 dash and switchs with the exception of the electric window switches (which is why they look different in style to the switches located in the dashboard) and the wiper/indicator/light stalks.
Of course the odd non sunroofed 19 made its way across to the UK but why they are not fitted with a sunroof? no idea lol
