I bet that mating surface will lovely not to mention the cam lobes possibly getting a bit of abuse.

the head can be in 'perfect working order' without being attached to a bottom end can't it?

Otherwise you can't say an engine is perfect working order without being in a car.

If the bottom end has failed you can't be sure that the head is still fine until such time as it's fully tested, it's just the wording, ebay is a fickle place.
