Exactly, you've backed my point up. You'd use it as a cheap runaround, which it is certainly ideal for, then potentially a source of parts.

Why the distinction between 16V an 1.4? Well personally (and I know this might upset some people) I don't see the attraction of a 1.4 19 any more than I do an escort or astra. It is retro though I suppose, you're right there.

Its just that people on here seem to whack one off over every poverty spec old renault that goes on ebay, that's all.

LOL, Neal I don't see why you're getting upset over this.

Personaly I'd rather have a energy engine in my 19 than the 16v. Not because it's faster or better but simply because it's cheap and I had far less problems with a 1.4 energy than any 16v I've owned.

they may not look as nice as the 16v, but thats easy to sort and I personaly think the 5 door hatch looks better than the 3 door. (but thats personal preference)

I see your point that people get over excited about every old renault that comes along but I think you'll find it's only when they are a half decent example and not just because they are old.

that was kinda my point, it looked like a really good solid one, that someone might like to do a project on one, also, how many MK3 escorts are there these days?
