new 'bidder 1' etc. crap

anyone else noticed this new feature on ebay where you can't see the IDs of bidders?

eg where you used to get a list of who bid, how much and when, now you just get a list of bidder 1, bidder 2 etc etc.

Really fucking annoying.

Anyone know a way around it to find out the bidder IDs?

What's the problem?

What does it matter how the bidders are named, be it by their registered preferred name or as 'Bidder 1' etc?

For all intents and purposes you may as well just assume that those are the names they wanted.

And seeing how nobody can see anyone's real ID nobody has any competitive advantage over the other.

Because 'bidder 1' can be anyone/everyone.

Therefore I can have two ebay accounts. Sell things with the first account and shill bid the price up on everything with the second anonymous account without any chance of being discovered. Does that really seem like a good idea to you?

Also, we can no longer do things like email bidders on items sold by our good friend Mr Malcolm Barry warning them that they won't receive their items.

Nor can I ask buyers if they want to sell a part of a lot that they have won when the seller did not want to split. Granted, I can ask the seller for contact details of the buyer, but chances are they won't want to give them to me.

No, but it's not like that doesn't happen routinely anyway is it?

I will agree with you on this point.

Well yeah that's a problem, but I can't see eBay reverting back to the old system because of this; it's never advocated people reaching deals outside of eBay anyway.

It sometimes does, but it was easy to spot, and you didn't bid. Now it's impossible to tell.

In a way theoretically it shouldn't matter as you should bid the maximum you're prepared to pay and if you win the auction at or under that, you should be happy. I personally think though that the price should be determined by what independent buyers are willing to pay, NOT artifically by the seller.
