F7R 710 Engine Rebuild
F7R 710 Engine Rebuild
To be fitted to my R19 16V Ph2 Hatch
Published by Wicked Neo
7th April 2007
Introduction

I obtained a rather beat up 1996 Megane 2.0 16v Coupe from ebay for the princely sum of £101.74 for the purpose of fitting its engine, the F7R 710 and its gearbox, the JC5 into my R19 16V Ph2 Hatchback to replace the F7P 1.8 16V engine and JB3 083 gearbox.

The doner car

and of course the engine

The first thing to do of course is to remove the engine from the megane, so that task has been started today

so getting everything off and disconnected so that i can unbolt the subframe, have the shell lifted off with a hiab and leave everything on the floor to take apart at my leisure

The plan is to give the engine a full bottom end rebuild as it has covered 115,000 miles, the head had £700 worth of work carried out it a little while back according to the reciepts i got with the car but that shall also be pulled apart to give it a good clean, check the valve springs, tappets, valves etc and all put back together with new oil seals, gaskets etc

Car Details
Year, Make & Model:
Megane 2.0 16v
Date vehicle acquired:

don't count your chickens yet re using the F7P cams, check the thrust flange thicknesses first!

hmmm yeah, fogot about the cams in our little chat. but i'm sure the meg cam's a a tad mild, compared to the 19/2.0 willams. Good start on the lump tho. Get it in one of thoose part's washer, there bring the inside's of the block up like new

there's only 0.5mm lift between them iirc. mind you, that's a decent chunk in cam terms

Soo can cams from F7P be used in F7R without any mods?

What gains can be expected with F7P cams?

F7P cams work well in an F7R engine, F7P cams are slight sharper than the F7R ones.

F7P cams will work in a F7R engine as long as the thrust flange thickness matches, it can differ as neal found out with his engine, but Stan says they can be shimmed to fit (of course you will need to talk to stan about that)

Keep in mind that F7P cams, are made to use a iqnition rotor on the exhaust cam.
And F7R megane cams don't. You might have to mod the exhaust cam slightly.

F7R cams are milder than F7P cams, especially the megane cams to stimulate the low-end torque.

The F7R Exhaust Cam has the notch in the end to take a distributor so no need to mod the cam at all but that is of no importance as i am using the F7P cams in the F7R head

You said that F7P cams can be shimmed to fit in a F7R engine as long as the thrust flange thickness matches. Where exactly can the cams be shimmed and how much or even better what thrust flange means? I don't want to ruin a good pair
