F7P Head Stirp and Rebuild
F7P Head Stirp and Rebuild

Introduction

An Introduction:

As some of you may know or remember I won a a car full of stuff (literally) on ebay not so long back for the hefty sum of £21. Included in this was a cylinder head which is to become my first taste of proper engine work.

The Plan:

Well, to strip it down and rebuild it with new parts where needed/possible along with some headwork should I be able to pluck up the courage for fear of fecking it up. With the aid of my trusty mechanic/step dad any fiddly bits should be made that little bit easier.

The Head & Story So Far:

The head was removed from an M reg Exec, I was unsure as to why the car was being broken. It didnt take long to realise why, both core plugs in the spark plug well had popped and as you can see in the following pic had left a lovely rusty brown tide mark in the well itself. The head itself is a PH1 early PH2 with the CTS sensors in the side of the head

The head had been off for awhile and had leaves in the plug area along with a spider living in the water ways, its missing both manifolds and thermostat housing but came with all senders, injectors, cams, plugs, head bolts and even the ECU. First thing I did when I got it home was to remove the plugs, well 3 of them the fourth doesnt want to move so that can wait, give it a quick clean up and check for obvious damage. Apart from the blown core plugs, first impressions are good although it apears there maybe 2 bent valves probably from being poorly stored (im no expert though). One thing im unsure of is why one of the valve sets are a rusty brown and the rest black, running problem of some sort?

The head is currently in storage waiting for the strip to commence.

Progress is slow, not had much time or money to play with recently. Got a week off soon so hopefully I can get everything out.
