Another article on Idle Control Valve (ISCV) cleaning, will it ever end? It will when I do the 16V one!

Anyway, as always these do get contaminated. Due to its position on top of the manifold, oil running into it is not a problem but carbon, soot and oil mist do get up there.

It's a twin-port plunger type - a spring loaded rod with a cone on it to close the bypass hole. Chances are it needs cleaning, so arm yourself with the usual:

Carb/Brake Cleaner
T30 Screwdriver
Cotton Buds & Paper Towels

So where is it?

Here - with the T30 screws removed.

That picture shows the ISCV removed and the gasket left on the inlet manifold.

This pic shows the ISCV removed, and as you can see it's pretty manky-looking!

This picture shows the actual motor removed from the plunger port, 2 Phillips screws hold it on.

Spray the ports thoroughly with the cleaner and agitate it with the cotton buds, rotate the plunger round with your fingers.

This picture shows it after it's been cleaned.

Not very clear but the rod is now brown instead of black.

Put it all back together and that's the job done!

Whilst you're there check the MAP pipe....

The picture's crap but that's life! Spray some carb cleaner through the pipe into the manifold, that'll make sure its clear.
