Why should you get a Cambelt Kit?

Cambelt Kits

There is much confusion on this issue and it's easy to get caught out and end up forking out lots of money.

Online parts places like GSF and Euro call the idlers and tensioners upper and lower tensioners.

The best place to get the the kit from is Renault. You might be able to source it cheaper through a factors; you might not. It will cost you more if you buy them seperatley and it will cost even more if you don't bother and the belt goes because a tensioner or idler seizes up.

For the F7P/F7R engines you want:
77 01 469 775 R19/ME KIT T/BELT £80.48 --- 3 x 1 plus VAT.

For the Energy engines (all 1.2/1.4/1.6) then you want:
77 01 472 726 KIT CAM BELT SC £56.54 --- 3 x 1 plus VAT.

For the F4R's you want:
77 01 474 019 KIT DISTRIBUTION £117.25 --- 3 x 1 plus VAT.

For the L7X V6 you want:
77 01 473 569 KIT DISTRIBUTION 308.34 ---3 x 1 plus VAT.

For the 8V F-type engines (RSi's, Lagunas etc.) you want:
77 01 469 776 BELT KIT LA 80.48 --- 3 x 1 plus VAT.

Official replacement time is every 5 years/72,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is frankly stupid. A new belt every 40K max, then new idler and tensioner every second belt change is good practice.

On the Energy engines the cambelt drives the water pump, so I suggest replacing that (water pump) every second change along with the tensioner.
