parking ticket win

Im NOT lovin it - FightBack Forums

bloody hate clampers with a passion, intresting story too.

so many people just pay up parking ticket offences through the post, when most are actually, un-enforceable.

good site to bookmark for future references

I don't understand the big deal about people pissed off with clampers, in most cases I've heard of, there have been signs erected warning that clamping is in operation.

I'm not saying putting a sign up entitles you to clamp someone's car, impound it and charge them a fortune to get it back, but if you parked where a chav was sat on the wall and told you he was going to slash your tyres the moment you were out of sight, could you really have grounds for complaint if you returned to find your tyres were indeed slashed?

think the difference here was the fact they clamped it when the young girl was in the vehicle, and saying they wouldnt clamp it if she returned to the car in 5 minutes, then clamping it in 2, aswell as actually being a customer of the store who's land it was/leased, etc etc and the charges really are ridiculous

That's the same argument as the the pro-speed scameras one. I dont think any of us believe scameras are fair or justified?

It's the same argument but I never said that clamping cars was either legal or justified!

I'm merely saying that if you're given ample warning and subsequently fall foul you've little excuse.

This is clearly a ridiculous statement. You're saying that people can threaten whatever they like and if you don't comply you're wrong!

It's not just sour grapes if people get clamped. People aren't that dumb Ben. It's the fact that anonymous landowners seem to believe that if anyone is stationary in a car on their land, then they can hold them to ransom for a fairly arbitrary fee!

As much as I belive in law & order and respecting other people, I think it's pretty immoral for people to go out actively seeking out people to fine for something insignificant. Victims are often fined as much as a week's wages on the whim of a man and a van!

I can fully understand a major deterrent to parking a car in certain areas such as emergency services access, but for stopping your car, and not even getting out, in the middle of some crappy estate with no other cars around? I think that is absolutely farcical.

We're supposed to be a civilised society, which means being civil towards other people.

I won a PCN against Edinburgh City council last month.

Got it in the centre months ago, on single yellows but no signs. Was within a CPZ but argued my nuts off within appeals procedure, even though I sent letters registered and on time they still punt fine up to £60 then £90 eventially. In the end their replies were completely nonsical and upon filling out form and telling Scottish Parking Appeals that I would attend in person two days before the date got a letter saying Edinburgh Council wouldn't contest. Part of my arguments were about extortion, others were about poor signage and general 'I am a good citizen, fuck off'.

Bingo. I'll maybe scan the letters, did get amusing.

I'm not making any moral argument here, just saying that if you're warned about something and it happens, then you can't then say you weren't warned can you?

I don't think that's a ridiculous statement by any stretch.

Of course, from a moral point of view, both unauthorised clamping and speed cameras (especially) is wrong and immoral.

one day there will be one hell of an uprising against a clamping company, just waiting to hear about it in the news, they will clamp the wrong person one day, that will send them over the edge

I actually don't see a problem with this.
