Found us:

I was thinking of putting a connector on the underside for a sub-board with something like a 2 or 4 line LCD on and a couple of push buttons that way it would be sold as an upgrade so to speak as every board will feature the connector and if along the way someone fancied an LCD theyd just need to get an LCD board and plug it into the existing unit.

4 line would be my preference.

More info the better, its irritating switching all the time on the XRD.

Will be able to display as many parameters as I can fit on the screen, all the datas fetched at once from the Renault ECU.

yeah I know but the 2 line xrd means you have to switch between screens to get the data, whereas if the data was all on one screen it would be a lot more helpful.

Ah ok with ya have just finished adding the two connectors for the LCD addon board, have also changed from the DB9 connector to a 8 pin Amp mate'n'lock style connector due to concerns people would think it was a RS232 connector and added a +5v power supply to the board to allow for powering it from the vehicle itself (for LCD standalone mode).

Well the plan was to recommend a couple of suitable enclosures from like Maplin or Farnell I think because of the low selling price its going to have to definitely be something off the shelf.

I've found a suitable enclosure and resized the board to fit, so will be supplying the complete unit built up, housed and tested. Had enough now, am off to bed!

tbh the price as long as its under 3 figures is a bargain.

Most people will recoup the money back in fuel savings and chasing phantom problems about.

Thanks Chris

I'm not very impressed with that method, I'll have to have a think and come up with something a bit better... maybe try and source the 12 pin connector thats actually meant to sit in the socket? Could probably pick a +12V and GND feed from the socket too rather than the fuse box (unit has a fuse on the PCB and a reverse polarity diode so no need for external one).

Found us:

my plan for my xrd is to get the cover off of a spare dash loom and drill it to mount the pins I have.

they sell the adaptor plugs for diagnostic gear on ebay but they are not cheap and most are wrong having all the pins where there is a blank on the socket.

If you did have a plug into the diagnostic socket would you be able to close the fusebox lid for driving? If not, guess I'll have to go with three pins on suitably coloured cable (i.e red for +12v, black GND, green for diag info).
