Using the USB diagnostic box that this thread is focused on youd be able to hook up your laptop and remap the ECU (i'd put the fuel and ignition advance tables within the software which you could modify).

Just a thought...

That could be dangerous, there'd be a lot of dead F7P's after people messing with diy maps

yeah i was going to say the same, i doubt 99% of people here would know what they are doing with that.

i also read a piece in PPC or something from one of the columnist in there who was ranting about how shite mapping on the road is, although i don't know him from adam either so i take everything with a bit of salt. especially that magazine.

Once you had it fitted though you could in theory turn up at any rolling road and they'd map it for you without you having to purchase expensive aftermarket ECUs.

well buyer beware, if your stupid enough to mess about with stuff you don't understand then its your problem no one elses!

Mapping on the road is tricky but plenty do it, I ken Andy Forrest and he does most of his mapping on the road.

You can only effectively map on a set of rollers if its in a wind tunnel tbh. You can get it pretty close but actual real world testing is best.

tbh the sooner most people stop reading magazines the better, I stopped when I just bought then to critique the shite they print then realised I am wasting money here!

lol i agree with you on that, don't pick them up very often at all anymore would rather put the money to something useful but something on the cover must have caught me last month.

I like loling at the staff cars, and what they get up to or not as the case may be.

Ok *changes the name in the source code from Clio to 19 * got the chipped one hooked up on the bench at the moment.

Chipped one is code hom7700857526 which believe is 1993+ does that make it a phase 2?

Patience Chris, I've only just this evening figured out what was wrong with the hardware design

Just pulled the lid off and its definately the chipped one, guess someone swapped the ecu over before you got the car?

Heres a pic of my dev bench at the moment with the TrackLogic Ren adapter sitting on top of one of Chris loaned ecus. The adapter is receiving all of its information via the green/yellow cable which is currently connected directly into the ECU but this ECU pin goes to the diagnostic connector on the cars.
