Houston, we have a problem...
Gearbox side driveshaft

The Situation: "2 out of 3 ain't bad"


The roller had come off and there was no sign of the needle bearings so they'll be having a party in the gearbox somewhere by now.

Close up of this bit:


No noticeable damage so a good wipe then a replacement shaft will go in.

Yeah it had no problem pulling, just not very smooth!

Anyhow hopefully that's sorted, due to monsoon style rain here and an abundance of gearbox oil i think i'll get clean before testing it.

the ladies go wild for the smell of gear oil

gearbox oil smells like honey and mustard flavour chicken tonight or vise versa, at least to my nose.

The 6 month old shaft (fat one, non-renault) and the also reasonably new replacement (thin one, not sure what make)



Seems the ends are different too.
