19 16v executive

Do the Phase 2 renault 19 16v executive still worth some money I have spent a lot of money to get mine back on the road as I bought one in Spring this year as a project I paid £270 with no tax or mot.

You have probably heard about it when I first joined reto. My engine has had a hard life all the serviceable parts have been done like the cat plugs rotor cap and arm leads etc.

The head gasket went the first haft hour on the road sorted this the week after the big ends is now knocking the engine sounds like a rattly lawnmower. I do love the car but my family and mates keep telling to give it up ad get shot of it. Should I take the car off the road and give her a new Hart (engine) over the winter or give up and get shot of it.

I would do a poll but don,t know how to do it on this new site.

heres some pics of her.

you should never have paid £270 for it with no tax or test!

ANother engine is only as good as it is if that makes sense. you can buy 10 engines all could fail soon.

As above, don't give up on it, drop another engine in it, but plan ahead.
When you have another engine, sort it out whilst its out of the car, cambelt, idlers, head gasket, water pump, aux belt, plugs, leads, dizy cap, rotor arm, clutch etc etc etc give the lump a good clean, change engine mounts and anything else that looks knackered in the engine bay whilst the engine is out.
Will save a lot of work in the future.

aye, 1000 miles give or take and i had an idler fail so yeah no gurantees but having said that, i reckon you are risking it more if you don't change it, spesh on a 100,000 mile plus engine

I forgot to mention at the time, but i took the idler back to renault and they gave me a refund, big whoop, £40 odd back compared to the cost for the time and hassle of getting it all sorted (although i was using the car on company business when it failed so my company at the time footed half the cost of me getting the car sorted)

dont really wanna sound like a damp squid, but did you go and check the car over thoroughly before buying it ? or was it off a friend? usually when someone is selling one with no tax and no MOT, or for a small amount of money, they usually know somethings wrong with it, not 100% of the time, but more times than not. when i bought the red ph1 of mine, i knew it had problems, which is why it cost me £70. i do feel for you tho, when things keep going wrong.

when my first engine blew on me, we kept it and stripped it for bits and to investigate, and found almost all the inner headbolts weren't torqued up properly, so buying a car with a good service history doesnt always mean a cast iron guarentee on the condition of the engine!
