Thieving unbeliveable

Thief takes live electrical cable

A thief who stole 250m (820ft) of industrial electrical cable is being sought by police in Northamptonshire.
Police believe the person who cut the cable, carrying 11,000 volts, would have been seriously burned and are urging them to seek medical care.

The live cable belonging to electricity distribution firm Central Networks, was stolen from Blisworth early on Monday.

A charred hacksaw and foliage were found at the scene. Police urged anyone with information to contact them.

Officers also want to speak to anyone who has been offered any industrial electricity cable for sale in recent days.

FPMSL! we had something like that in iraq.

the cable was 250 metres long and weighed in excess of 5 tonne!

there were drag marks from the road (where the cable was) to the outer perimiter fence (2K away!) then a hole in the fence. lol
there were over 20 different foot prints coming in and out of the hole in the fence and so they would have been quite a site for any guadrs that were close yeah? Well No. The RAF guard that part of the camp and the hole and drag marks were only 20 meters away from their century position! FPMSL

(they also lost a 40T crane, a 50 seater coach and 5 Landrover discoveries because they faild to realise that only armoured vehicles were allowed to leave the camp!)

Bloody RAF.

It aint thick at all, this happens a lot more than you would think.

Copper currently weighs in around £3.30 to the kilo, so for a 250m run of 11kV cable there's gonna be a few grand weigh in value at least.

The idiots are the ones who let them get away, it's not the easiest 'theft' to carry out by any stretch of the imagination.

As for the shock etc, it's quite easy to protect yourself using basic insulating materials.

One of the classic 'initiation' rituals for National Grid engineers I've heard from an ex-NG engineers is to grab hold of a bare 250,000 volt cable with nothing more than a pair of marigolds on your hands and a rubber car mat to stand on for protection.

Depends on the definition of 'thick', but anyone who hacks through cable carrying 11,000 volts knowing damn well that it'll probably kill them, is in my books, desparate or thick!

Would you pay russian roulette for £5K?
