What engine is this?

I see people going on about the F7P engine, but mine is an F16.IE and have no idea what the stats are on it.

137bhp, although most will be struggling to make that. Makes it at high rpm so you need to have a heavy right foot to get it to go.

I think torque is meant to be around 115lb/ft mark or so.

To be honest looking back at them figures they seem like pittance compared to what the current crop of hot-hatches makes.... Ford ST's, Vauxhall VXR's, and Seat Cupra's make so much power a 19 16v really wouldn't even be at the races in a straight up drag race!

It was quite respectable in its day. Power to weight ratio counts for a lot as well

I keep racing chavved up corsas off the lights and winning!

So it can still hold its own pretty well, and my right foot is a lead weight so at 6500rpm its pretty quick hehe

That is a F7P

Megane 2.0 16V and Clio Williams engine is the F7R (differing variants of this engine in the two cars)

Well clearly 20 years of development goes a long way, I wasn't suggesting otherwise.

But driving an early 90s hot hatch is a very different experience for many other reasons than out and out power/acceleration/speed.

I know where my money is

Yes but you were arguing the 19's case against the VXR by citing power to weight, yes it's a proven and logical way of improving a cars' performance but I think a 19 gutted and stripped of every conceivable item down to the last nut and bolt would struggle against a full-fat VXR!

Yes, until the VXR torque steers into the bushes.

I'd wager the VXR would have a tough old time on the handling course too

Yes, thank you Neal!

I've been driving quite a few company cars for work (new ones) and every single one of them has left me completely cold.

I have never driven a car with a better seating position, more comfetable seats, and better steering feel than the 19. Its a real antidote to modern cars, which strive to insulate the driver from the road, whereas the 19 involves you.

Lets be honest though, its probably no faster in gear acceleratino than a black pump sipping repmobile...but somehow, thats not the point.

But most of all new engines out now have a turbo add to them, To make them shift.... so too be fair the engine in the 19 is still a pretty good,

and still the most sexy looking car!!!
