cheap forks thats why. TBH I would change them to solid front forks,

Much cheaper and more practical, I used to snap both suspension and solid forks right enough. Solids tended to bend so i could lift the back of the bike up and bounce it down to straighten the forks to get me home, those where the days.

if to get a set or Bombers or Rock Shoxs then you can't really go wrong

its really easy to change them over the hardest bit is getting the star washer down the neck of the fork so the headset can screww into it, they can easly snap.

i got a GT Zaskar LE with Pace Racing forks on the front with a hope mini disc brake, a hydoclic brake on the back and all the componants are XT.

heres a couple of links to try

Merlin Cycles Ltd Suspension Forks - anyone of these makes is good

Evans Cycles - uk bike shop - mountain bikes, mail order bikes, mountain bike shop uk - good shop this bought a few things from them

Rock Shox Suspension Forks

Try these guys out and let us know how it goes

Dukes arent bad at all and at that price you can't complain.

check your headtube/current fork first though BB, that steerer is quite short at 183mm

yep they will fit as long as the steerer is long enough... looks pretty long in the pictures.

you'd need to use the adjustment on them though... 120mm travel is a bit much for your frame, 100mm max would be much more suitable.

don't bother with a disc brake either unless you're going to spend money on a decent hydraulic one. Also you'd need a disc compatible front hub.

I'd take a good well setup V brake over a crappy cable operated disc brake anyday. They only really sell because people think they look cool.

but is it cheaper buying new wheels than having these built in?

You'd want new wheels built.

Does the frame even have a rear caliper mount?

I wouldn't bother. There are a lot of things I'd upgrade on that before the brakes tbh.

Just use it and as things break/wear out (and they will, if you're riding it properly ), replace them with better components
