Megane 2.0 16v (F7R) Engine

Just wondered how noticably different these engines are from the 1.8 16v in a clio. It's back to the car I mentioned in the ebay section as I need to find out about insurance for it. I know most people who put a williams engine or megane BE in the clio just insure it as a 1.8 as it's difficult to tell the difference but I'm not sure if it's pretty obvious with the megane not having a dizzy cap and things when the whole engine is used and not just the BE.

It's a bit of a pain becaise if I do some quotes on the 2.0 megane it's actually a tad cheaper than the 1.8 16v clio but the only company giving me good quotes for either (elephant or bell) won't cover engine conversions.

So, how noticable a difference is it - would you say it would be quite risky to just insure it as a 1.8 or are they close enough so as not to notice.

Thanks.

by the letter of the law, if you do not insure your car properly as in declaring all mods, all traffic convictions etc then the insurance is invalid.
In the event of an accident, then you could be in shit street, spesh if the accident is declared to be your fault.
The insurance will not pay out as your insurance would be based on what you have told them, this could mean a civil law suit where you would end up paying thousands and possibley a court appearance for obtaining insurance by deception / fraud and having no insurance = fine and points

If i was you, i would do it the proper way

I know mate, and I usually would - and have done to date. If it was a williams engine I have to admit I would almost defintately not declare tbh as you can't really tell the difference - but the megane engine I'm thinking would be more risk that it's worth.

i thought the only noticable diffrence was the rocker cover?

and that the standard williams ones fit.

raocker is the same on 1.8 and williams. Theres very little difference between the 1.8 and the williams tbh. THe block has some extra strengthening veigns, starter is different and I think thats about it. But with the megane engine the head is different which is the problem.

Anyone got any suggestions of where to try for insuring it with the 2.0? Really wish elephant would cover them as I would hardly have to pay any more tbh.

what sort of discount do they get? Not that it would matter tbh as I already got a quote of about £1800 from them TPFT which isn't an option tbh but I can't see myself getting any better.

Only 19, hence the high prices. I can get insured on a valver for about £920 TPFT with all mods declared so I think I'll play it safe and stick with a normal valver till I can afford to insure something else properly. Really I was just wishing I could insure it but I'll stick to the sensible option and go with a 1.8.

So just bang the megane BE on your 1.8 head and chip it then?

not got a 16v any more u33db. I sold it a while ago as it had more problems than I could be bothered to fix so I'm now on the lookout for another.

Ah, didn't read the ebay section advert...at a guess though its the bodged 16v with the megane engine in it?

Aye, that'd be pretty hard to hide from the insurance due to the differences, altho, assuming they haven't hacked the clio looms to bits you could bang a clio head on it and insure it back as a 1.8 to get 2ltr on the sly? You'd then get all the dash working again lol

lol, that had crossed my mind but would have been too much hassle. Just on the look out for a 1.8 16v or a hybrid now, so if you spot any up your way let me know seeing as your just a few hours up the road, lol.

Will mate!

Theres good bargains on ebay atm...i bought a R5 for 230quid today which will eventually take my F7R (see here). Check these out though;

first one is at st andrews and has a spare 16v car available, second one is a none runner but looks in good nick...a trip accross to chris and it'd be sorted. Third one (IIRC) used to be in the old CS gallery so could be enthusiast owned/decent condition.

One

Two

Three

Yeah, there seem to be a lot on ebay around this area at the minute. Theres also one through in glasgow thats up at the moment. Main problem at the minute is that I'm too busy to be able to go and have a look at them or anything. First one I was going to ask about tbh, and the third but I'm not sure if the third one actually has an MOT at the moment.

Don't want to risk the 2nd at the moment as the last one I bought had some problems needing fixed and it turned into endless problems tbh and I don't have time to be working on it at the minute.
