Breakdown Cover
I'm thinking of taking out breakdown cover. I'm a bit new to this so what do people think is important?
Presently I'm thinking about RAC 'Solution 1' at £69/year, which includes towing to my destination UK Breakdown Cover, Roadside Assistance |

Britannia Rescue get my vote.
I use them every year And after breaking down in europe, they put me up in a hotel. Then flew me home and had a hire car whilst waiting to be flown back out to pick up the car. They do what they say on the tin. |

I was with the AA.
Had to call them twice and both times they were there within 30mins. 1st time I was on the outside lane of the motorway and the car decided to spit a sparkplug out. Had just changed them so maybe the pack had been dropped and damaged the ceramic or something. No tools with me and was at night so couldn't see properly. Anyways, I had the old plugs in the boot so he swapped what was left of the plug and re-made the end of the lead. (about and inch of it had been frazzled off) 2nd time I was on my way home from Cornwall and got about 2 miles down the road and my clutch cable snapped. AA Bloke made a new inner cable out of some steel cable and terminated it with brass bits. Pedal felt better than ever, and it stayed there for about 2 months before I got around to replacing it. (I'm pretty sure it would have lasted forever like that!!!) Best one though was many years ago when my dad had a 2.8 V6 Granada. We were miles away from home and it bent a pushrod. So he took it out, bent it back straight with a brick and put it back in.

Well, I never got cover before FCS and track time and the car's in relatively good shape so I might just go back to crossing my fingers for the time being
Thanks for all the advice, as they say a recommendation is worth more than anything else |

To be honest I have always been with the AA and only ever had them out a couple of times in all the years I was with them and they were great but for some reason last year the Wife renewed me/us with the RAC....
I know it was probably a one off as I know people who are with them and love them but I wont be taking it out with them when its up for renewal,, I lent my Old Dears Astra a couple of month ago while I was between cars and it broke down on me,,, I rang the RAC and even though the advert on TV says they can pinpoint you with the signal from your Mobile the woman on the Phone had me running round asking people for the postcode of the road I was in as I didnt know the name of it but the worse bit was I waited 2 hours for them to come out,,,, they say there response time is "around" 30 minutes and when I questioned why I had been waiting for 2 hours I was told they were busy.. Dont get me wrong I didnt expect them to turn up straight away but just thought a couple of hours abit of a mickey take,,,,, like I say though it could have been just a one off but for me personally I wont go with them again.. |

I was with the AA when the R11 I drove decided to blow up it's CV joint as I got to work. I phoned them up and explained the situation, including the fact that I had to go 300 miles to get home that night (working away from home). They booked a recovery vehicle without even checking it and dropped me off outside my door. Still with them now - 'nuff said.

nope not a one off, i broke down in the cossie on the A3, junction with another A road, despite teling them the A3 and the A(whatever it was) they couldnt pinpoint it on their system unless I gave them a road name, did explain the A3 was a three lane carriageway and one of the major roads into london and any recovery driver would know where it was but this didnt wash with Mrs Hitler on the phone who refused to help until I provided a name of the road, needless to say not been with RAC since then
