Whose fault is this?
Right, so I'm sitting in the living room last night watching TV. Lisa goes up to bed.
A few minuteslater I decide to go to bed too. So I turn off the TV, lock the back door, turn off the lights etc and head for the stairs. On my way past Lisa's laptop I see the lid ajar and lit up: I dont mess with her laptop so decided I'd just close it so I gently push the screen down to close it up. crunch. "WTF was that?!" I exclaim. I open it up and this is what I find: Lisa has left a fucking knitting needle sitting in the laptop at the back towards the hinge. WTF!?? So of course she throws a shit fit ("why would you do that!?" etc.) and has now got the arse and is not talking to me. Now seriously, am I being really dumb here? To me that's tantamount to a booby trap. You don't see me leaving my xbox in the bath to be drenched by anyone who turns the shower on without looking, nor do I prop the door open with my sunglasses. Obviously I'll have to buy a new screen but as far as I'm concerned it's a case of her stupidity costing me money. Thoughts?

Claim on house insurance if you have got any. A lot of the time its not worth getting the screen replaced its cheaper just to buy another laptop.
But do agree, why a knitting needle. Maybe if it was a pen. Could have placed there accidently. But was she pressing the keys with the knitting needle? |

She never does anything wrong and so on. And also isn't that where normal human beings store knitting needles? I mean really neal get with tyhe times.

also, she tends to keep a couple of SD cards up there 'for safe keeping', which obviously are thin enough not to cause damage when the thing is closed. I don't know how many times I've told her not to do that. A lot.
Maybe now she will understand the reason why.

Expensive mistake, a quick web search, about £250/£300 for a new one.
I often leave my laptop on when doing a virus scan, when running a deep virus scan on a hard drive over 300gig, takes a few hours. I always leave the screen fully open though.
