Car Tax?

I know that most prices are associated with cars registered after March 2001 but do you think they'll put the price up for older cars which emissions are going to be higher than their modern counterparts?

When I had my 19 it was about 180 for a year and 99 for 6 months, is it still like that? I'd consider buying one again if I knew that the tax wouldn't be effected...

or am I just being silly?

Tax on a 19 is now £101ish for 6 months. I cant see a CO2 based system coming in for pre 2001 cars, all the new system is doing is making people buy older cars that fall under the old system because they can no longer afford to tax the family car. My mother is pissed at this, she recently bought one of those rediculous street Ka things and has to pay more road tax than I do on the megane

If they think they can get away with it - of course they will up the tax on older cars.

Which means it's just a matter of time, given the fact that British public are a now a neutered subservient species that has forgotten how to protest and asks 'how high?' when the government says jump.

A CO2 system won't come in (as they would have to test the cars to get figures) but given the current climate, a CC based system will come in. (Like the current one, but with more bands)

I would guess anything petrol and over 2.5L will be in the £400 band.

Unfortunatly, unless the proposed post 2001 scheme is defeated (which can still happen yet, given this incompetent administrations track record on U-Turns) the precident for retrospective taxes will have been set. That is a very worrying thought.

I heard somewhere that, due to the rise in fuel costs over the last 12 months, the robbing tw@ts in government have raked in an extra £6 billion in fuel taxes

Expect to see some truly jaw dropping hare-brained schemes from Brown and Darling as they attempt to buy some popularity/votes this August by using tax payers money to prop up the crashing housing market.

Wont work, it'll just put us further up Shit Creek than we already are.

I find the best way to deal with car tax is to let the wife pay it....

Bit extreme getting married I know but it worked for me
