Car Opinions

Right All,

I am looking at getting another car. My boy is learning to drive and I thought of buying one and sharing it with him until he writes it off. So looking for cheap Taxed and ticketed. (Doesnt have tio be ticketed actually.) As long as it is no flintstones car.

So as cheap as possible I thought £100-£150

Renault 19
Renault Clio
Mk3 Fiesta
Pug 306
Pug 106
Shitron Saxo
Over 200
Fuckall Corsa

But I draw the line at a Nissan Micra.

306. galvanised shell so no rust issues.

19 is cheap but it will be costly to maintain.
clio is appropriate only if your boy is female or gay.

Clio it is then

tbh I was thinking Clio for cheapness. or Fiesta. I had an XR2i and varies other Mk3 Fiestas, and they were a piece of piss to work on.

I'd say the 306 with a caution - I had a D Turbo - it was great except for 2 things lousy turning circle and crap brakes. I had no ABS and it was piss easy to lock the front wheels with seemingly very little braking effort.

On a side note, surely you cant pick up a 306 for less than 150 quid?!

Re the 19, clearly a wise choice but i would have thought its going to cost you an arm and a leg to get your son insured on it.

I'd go with the Fiesta, or a Clio, but probably the Fiesta.....or maybe the Clio.

Polo G40, mate has one which I almost bought and the thing flies, great fun but too small and tinny for me.

1.8l 8v 2nt gen golf. big enough to be useful, parts are dirt cheap and it takes crap loads of abuse. Mine had a loose timing belt, when I finally replaced it(1,000 miles or so) the timing was more than -20 degrees off. but it ran quite well, amazingly enough.

of course, that would be the smallest, lowest power model available here, donno the options over your side of the pond. All the cars in the list I've never seen, let alone have any experiance with.

If it were me, and I had a bit more to spend I'd track down a mid 80's Mercedes 240D a nice slow moving tank of a car. Volvo 240 maybe...
