Fitting 6x9 Speakers into a Renault 19 Chamade

We've all seen it. Some butcher has cut and hacked at the metal rear shelf to get some 6x9's in there.

There is a better way! All you need is the following:
  • A set of 6x9's
Some short self tapping screws, 8 at most
A small sheet of MDF about 1' x 2'. 1/2" will do but 3/4" is much better
    A jigsaw or similar
A drill with a small bit, around 3mm should do but maybe bigger depending on the size of your screws
    Screwdriver
    Sharp Blade

And we begin...

1. Remove the old speakers. If they're original they'll be held in by 4 T20 screws each, aftermarket speakers will most likely have philips screws

2. Fold down the rear seats and remove the carpet trim that is held on by black push-in clips

3. Take the template from your 6x9s and cut out 2 holes in the MDF with your jigsaw. Once you've done this cut another oval around about 3/4" from hole to give you a nice ring similar to the pic:

4. Take your rings to the car and place them under the carpet of the rear shelf. Try to keep them centred with the original holes.

Note: Some people have had problems with this step due to the shape of the rear shelf and how tight the space is, i found the pulling the carpet up as high as it will go will leave enough room to slid the MDF spacer in. It will fit but its a bit of a struggle

5. From underneath (in the boot) drill 4 holes through the metal and into your MDF rings. Its best to stagger them at 90 degrees on the thinnest and widest bits of the ellipse.

6. Screw 4 screws into the MDF through the metal, get em nice an sturdy!

7. From the top take your sharp blade and cut the carpet to the shape of your MDF ring.

8. Sit the 6x9's into their new homes. Hopefully the thickness of MDF you use will give enough clearance for the basket of the speakers, if not you may have to go thicker.

9. Using some self tapping screws secure your new speakers to the MDF rings.

10. Thats it, now just wire them up and enjoy the tight bass that comes from solidly mounted speakers!

Incase the instructions weren't clear enough heres 2 pics to help you out
