Phillips Radio Bulbs
Can't see what station your on? Volume button not lit up? You'll be needing a few new bulbs!

Phillips Radio Bulbs

Few of you may have actually retained the standard Phillips head unit but it's actually not that bad a radio.

However it has bulbs inside it and bulbs don't last forever and when they go out its annoying, especially when the screen no longr is illuminated.

So here's how to replace the bulbs.

Make sure you have the radio code, if you enter it wrong by the way you need to leave the unit on for two minutes before you can enter it again, and if you do it wrong you have to wait 4 minutes and so on.

Remove the radio. You do this by either inserting the proper U-shaped removal tools available from Halfords or use like I do a few allen keys in the holes.

Disconnect the wiring from the back of it.

You should now go inside where it's warm.

There's the beast!

You need to remove the radio's bottom panel. Use a small screwdriver to lever it off.

That's the cover off and the black lines show the location of the bulb holders.

You remove them by turning then through a 1/4 turn and lifting them out.

Now on early radios you get bulbs with a rubber cover on them whilst later radios have plain bulbs.

The rubber covers are tricky to peel off as they form an air tight seal to the bulb.

If you take the bulb to Maplins then you can get new matching bulbs.

Fit the new bulbs in and then bend the legs over the as the old bulbs were and then pop them back in.

Re-fit the radio and enter the code and now the radio should light up in its full glory. You then need to enter the code.

Assuming the code is 1234,

Press 1 once
Press 2 twice
Press 3 three times
Press 4 four times

And then press 5.

You will hear a bleep through the speakers and the radio will come on.

Job done.
