Well we've never seemed to need them and had erm............... give up counting how many 19 16v and clio 16v. Suspect you might have other problems (don't take this the wrong way). Still have clio 16v and our friend has our 16v cabrio and still no problems with them missing..... I suppose matter of opinion. Hope it solves your problem anyway.

having no heat shield on the starter can be an issue, i've certainly known a few 19 16vs suffer from poor hot starting due to the heat shield missing, one of my ph1s a few years ago certainly had that problem, by simply putting on a heat shield, its hot start problems went away instantly.
As you will know, under the bonnet of the 19 16v it can get bloody hot, which is why renault put the bonnet vent on (the 1st of the 19 16V had no bonnet vent and had an issue with cracking exhaust manifolds), again as you know the starter motor sits under the exhaust manifold subjecting it to some pretty hot temperatures, with a new starter motor you wont get the problem but as they age the starter motor case starts to swell with the heat and the electrics get affected making the car very hard to start when hot when it has no heat shield.

Like I said agree to disagree, think we worked out had over 20 of them and none had them, none had problems. Maybe our cars were running a better temperature/better air flow, not sure. If it solves the problem then that's good. No offence meant

none taken.but while we are on the subject why would mr renault fit a component that is not required, shurly they came to the conclusion that the heat shield is needed,no large corporation spends money when it don't need too.
