renault clio 16v tuning bits make me go faster!!
ok so heres the script i went on a track day the other day and had a bet with my mate in his 1800 xr2i that i would beat him, we were dead evenly matched in every respect although he is running larger throttle body, decat, and a few other mods. So the next track day is middle of january and by then i need to be quicker. I have a reasonable budget and a wish list of any of the items below and also if you have anything you think might be useful let me know as i can collect before christmas so you can boost your cash levels! the great diamond is at stake here! Cant have a renault being beaten by a ford can we?
Supersprint manifold Fast road cams for clio 1.8 16v bigger/better throttle body perpex windows brake upgrade (either bigger discs and calipers or grooved/uprated discs etc what have you got?) suspension upgrades? chipped ecu-you need to be able to prove it has been chipped and by who. after market engine management maybe if price is right! cold air induction kit. Cylinder head/engine might consider if at right sort of money, dont want to go 2 litre yet as it is 1800 vs 1800 at moment! anything else that you might think may be of use to me! |

Depends how much you want to spend.... 2.0 conversion would be the better point to start from though if you're planning on spending major cash.
Sort the breathing and exhaust out first, ITG panel filter seems to get the vote all round by seasoned trackdayers.... exhaust systems are pretty easy to find 2nd hand although you'll have a time and a half finding a Supersprint manifold because they're a discontinued item and they aren't the most robust item, as a final reason they sacrifice torque for a top end gain which is no use to you on a track. Throttle bodies crop up every so often which *apparently* have been fully reworked and maximised but how true that is I don't know. After induction and exhaust, cams would probably be your best bet. Thing is if it's mid-January when the deadline is then time is your enemy unless you source the gear locally and know your way round an engine! I take it you've already stripped the car out fully?

Gentle Ben is right as always.
Til you've stripped it to within an inch of its life there's no point spending money on tweaking the engine mapping or whatever. Then small wheels, clean engine before you start throwing money away on cams or electronics. |

Unless that XR2 is highly modded, there must be something wrong with your clio if you were unable to spank him, either straight line, or especially on the corners.
anyway, Gentle Ben speaketh the truth

Already have a foam filter(think its pipercross) in standard air box with cold air feed, any opinions on whether or not itg is any better etc, still after a manifold chip might be sorted as i have an ecu flasher just need to find a decent map. Cams is next but a bit pricey so on the search, are williams cams any different? and valve sizes on a williams head are they any different? |

Williams cams are different, they give a nice bhp improvement, I think JB fitted some to his 16v... speaking of JB, anybody know what he's up to? Is he in Northampton yet?

Well not sure but look out for williams cams on the bay or more likely clio forums. Not sure what gains they'd give but they are marginally wilder than standard F7P (or F7R for that matter)
obviously you'd get more out of a set of fast road cams e.g. piper or what have you, but i guess if you're really going for power you'd want a standalone management system? Theres a good chance of a rolling road day in Feb so that would give you an idea of where you're starting from |
