Post Renault 19 owning Noob

Hi all,
i have been driving around in a Renault 19 for the past year and have decided to make a bit of an effort, it is a bit of a family heirloom that used to belong to my grandparents, then my uncle, then my brother, then me. Recently though the drivers side indictor has broken and keeps falling out, so is held in place until I get another one sorted out. It has a couple of bumps and scratches but is generally ok. Also the interior heating has packed up, I have tested the obvious, fuses and and dash switches and both are ok, so I am guessing that it is a fan in the heater matrix somewhere. Oh and it idles at around 1400rpm, but i think that ths is mostly due to incorrect carb on her.

So hi everyoneand hope to get to know someof you a bit better through the forum, sorry about the name, my keyboard missed the A from it... DAMN

hi Dancingbear84. I like how you've come to own the 19, most venerable. I have a hand-me-down car (fiat uno) which was my aunts.

That assumesta the trusty 19 would make it there, tried to get to Liverpool the other month. Had a minor exhaust issue where the mid pipe broke from the exhaust, quick **it ordered the wrong part (OHV not OHC) so i had to drive 350 odd miles back at 35mph going slightly deaf in the process LOL. All part of the fun of running an old motor I guess

I think the issue i that there is no interior fan, you turn the fan speed selector and nothing happens. I was covnced it had a carb rather than injection, ut I will check in a bit when I bodge a fix on the indicator and remove the tape holding it in place, I o enjoy driving it, but it would be nice to have some mod cons

There's a rheostat in the heater blower housing, that sometimes burns out. Usually you'd still at least get full speed though.

Otherwise of course the motor itself could be duff.

Still, easy job to remove and replace. mk1 clios have the same blower, might be easy to get one of those from the scrappy as 19s are a bit thin on the ground these days, just be careful to get one with the same connector as these can differ slightly so take the old one with you.

pop up an engine bay pic, should be able to tell from there then

are the indicators held in by a spring, like the ph1's? what part of the indicators are broke?

Full days DIY?? pfft, hours work absolute tops to swap it out including your cup of tea when youve finished.

ph2 indicators are indeed held in by the stretch spring. What usually happens is that the spring tears out of the little lug on the indicator. You can redrill another hole but that only works so many times, until there's no lug left to drill.

Yeah sure, I get that on a cold start the idle is faster due to the choke (automatic I guess?) but even after a 40 minute journey to work the idle is stil round 1300 to 1400 rpm
